One of the things that are used almost daily in a lot of households are cleaning wipes. We use them to clean up counter top surfaces, bathroom, kitchen, furniture, floor and more. They are pretty handy all purpose cleaners.
However, they are not the most affordable product. They are also disposable and therefore not environment friendly. And we have not even mentioned the harmful chemicals added to them which can be a harzard on its own.
So why not make your own reusable DIY disinfecting wipes? They take less than 10 minutes to make and in time they will be way cheaper than the disposable ones.

Why use homemade clorox wipes
Let’s be honest, who doesn’t like the convenience of paper towels and disinfectant wipes? They make your daily cleaning chores so much easier!
The only problem is that once you get used to wiping everything clean with wipes the amount of waste you produce increases considerably.
Every single little wipe that you use will end up in a landfill as those are not recyclable. They are made of synthetic fibers and non-biodegradable materials so they are not decompostable.
So you imagine every single time you use them, to clean a tiny little place of your house, you are in fact just adding to the environmental crisis that our kids will have to deal with big deal.
After this single realization I thought? Is this convenience really worth the price that we are all paying for? My opinion is that it is not! So here I am, using my homemade lysol wipes.
These seriously are no trouble whatsoever to make. You most likely have all supplies to make them at home already! And if you have not, they are also not expensive.
Also, we cannot be quite sure of what kind of chemicals are added to commercial wipes. When you make your own natural disinfecting wipes you know exactly what goes in! You can use natural cleaners, reusable clothes, even pick the fragrance. So why wait?

You might have seen some tutorials that uses paper towel or other disposable material. This might seem cheaper and easier to start with but my point is that if you are going through the effort of making diy kitchen wipes why not be the most eco friendly you can get and actually make reusable homemade cloth wipes?
Sure you might thing that paper is better for the environment that the synthetic material of the commercial wipes but it is still a single use product. The more reusable and recyclable the products, the better it is!
You might have some piece of textile left over, or an old towel, that you can re-purpose for this project. I used my trusted microfiber cloths which are in my opinion a must have housekeeping tool for they are multi-purpose and handy for cleaning, dusting and removing grime.
I use many of them daily and then I just throw them in the washing machine on a quick cycle and they are as good as new again! I cannot recommend them enough!
But, as I said, other fabrics will work too or something else that you can repurpose into a cleaning cloth.
For this project I used distilled white vinegar, essential oils and liquid dish soap. But you can use an all purpose cleaner in place or even add rubbing alcohol. You can even make totally organic cleaning wipes by not even using soap at all. The essential oil fragrance is up to you, I used to add a pleasant scent and make your house smell amazing!

How To Make Homemade Disinfectant Wipes
Easy tutorial on how to make reusable cleaning wipes. These are the best natural disinfecting wipes for your pocket and the environment.

- Start by measuring all of your supplies.
- Add the water, vinegar, soap and your preferred essential oil drops (I used clove oil) to a mixing cup and set it aside.
- Now we are going to fold the microfiber cloths in a roll so when we picked one cloth the corer of the next cloth will raise a little and be ready for when we need it next time. Start by lining up the microfiber cloths in a way that they overlap about 1/3 of each other.
- Now, starting from the end where you placed the last cloth, fold each cloth in half, one by one.
- Next, start rolling the microfiber from the same end you started on in the step above. Do not roll it too tightly.
- You can add more cloths to the roll if it is not enough to fill up your glass jar.
- Place the roll of microfiber cloths in your glass container.
- Pour the cleaning solution you mixed earlier into the container, make sure all the cloths get covered and are damp.
- To use a cloth, pull the corner of the cloth which is at the center of the roll. You will pick the cloths from the center as you need them.
- Every time you pull one cloth from the jar the corner of the next cloth will raise making it easy for you to use it the next time.
- Keep the unused diy wet wipes in the closed airtight container for 1 week.
- When the cloths have all been used just wash them and then repeat all these steps to reuse!

Great post, one thing I would like to add unless your washing machine has a filter for synthetic fibers, the fibers end up in the ocean and in your food if you like to eat fish. Sadly all synthetic fibers currently are not biodegradable and are part of the micro-plastics people keep hearing about being in their water bottles and etc… So please keep that in mind whilst it is far better than disposable wet wipes it is still part of the problem! I am not here to judge because I understand that you can always take up another notch and I do think that the effort you are making is amazing. Just wanted to share some knowledge that some people might not know of.

I love that these are reusable and not disposable! The one thing you might want to mention is that they should NOT be used on granite counters because of the vinegar. Alcohol would be a better choice, but I’m not sure of the amount. Thanks!
