Do you make these common cleaning mistakes? learn how to avoid them and have an effective cleaning done.
It was beyond my imagination that some of the ways I was cleaning was just wrong and that I was making A LOT of cleaning mistakes.
You might be in the same situation but it is okay though, we are not born professional cleaners, are we? But I thought I would pass on some of the tips I learned along the way that makes my cleaning now more efficient and practical!
If you know what they are ahead of time, it is easier to avoid them.
So check out this list of common cleaning mistakes and how you can avoid making them.
Common Mistakes to Avoid While Cleaning
Even the best cleaning intentions can be a waste if you make some of these common mistakes when you are trying to do a thorough cleaning in your home.
Keep these things in mind when you are about to do your cleaning, be that a deep, daily, cleaning or any other time you have an important cleaning job ahead of you.
1. Cleaning Too Fast
Sure we want things done as fast as possible and there are plenty of good tips to achieve a very efficient cleaning task, but sometimes you just can’t compromise.
When you rush through something such as spring cleaning for instance, you will almost always regret it later. Some jobs need your total attention to details and it may not be the time to rush yourself or anyone else helping.
Take your time and make sure you do deep cleaning right as this will save you time spent correcting your mistakes later.
2. Not following a cleaning schedule
It is always good to take your time, but it is equally important not to move too slowly when cleaning – you don’t want to lose the momentum and then end up giving up half way and having no energy to carry on.
Also keep on track of your cleaning schedule. If you do not stick to at least a basic schedule, you will soon become disheartened when you see no progress and overwhelmed by the mess.
Keep yourself motivated however possible, so that the changes you make will propel you to do even more.
3. Not Cleaning the Dishwasher
The dishwasher performs one of the heaviest duties for you and your family. Also, whatever it cleans will come in direct contact with the food you and your family consume.
Without proper care this machine will become a living ground for bacteria and other hazards. You want to make sure that your dishwasher is actually cleaned too!
Every month make sure to run the dishwasher empty with a dishwasher cleaner. It will ensure that the hidden parts of your dishwasher are clean, fresh and well maintained.
4. Doing Deep Cleaning Alone
Some cleaning jobs really aren’t a one-person’s job.
Spring cleaning for instance is not the time to act independently, get your family involved.
Motivate all family members to take part, and make lists for each person in the household. At least their own rooms and shared living areas should be done together.
If you live alone check with friends and family, if there is any way you can get a helping hand from someone else, be sure to take it.
5. Cleaning the Floor first
This might sound like an obvious thing but you would be surprised at how many people actually do this.
Cleaning the floor before the furniture is totally counter productive because the dust and dirt will fall again onto the floor requiring you to do re-do it.
6. Making things over complicated
Cleaning a house is not rocket science.
Follow a cleaning schedule and add up tasks that apply to your house in order to create your own personalized list. Just simply follow the basics and you will get to the end result you want.
And since we are talking about over-complicating things, don’t feel you have to buy every new cleaning product, tool, scrub, spray or whatever they have invented to do the job right.
Sometimes they help a lot, other times they are just a huge waste of money. Don’t buy new items that are unnecessary, or that are not worth the money for the small amount of effort that they might save.
7. Cleaning without gloves
This is a no-no for anyone who has a sensitive skin of course but anybody should use gloves while cleaning.
You don;t want your skin getting into contact with harsh substances, and believe me some cleaning products are actually toxic! Don’t forget to protect your skin.
Use natural substances such as vinegar and baking soda for your cleaning as of as you can even natural products can dry your skin.
8. Being Unprepared
Imagine this scenario: you get into your cleaning clothes, put on some upbeat music, rolling up your sleeves, get in the cleaning mood (which might not be a natural thing for you) only to realize that you do not have the necessary equipment to complete your task.
If you follow your routine list just go marking what supplies you need to make sure you can complete the tasks. Go get it ahead of time so that when the time comes, you can get right into cleaning without any delays.
Cleaning is an important job. A proper spring cleaning will give you a healthier space to live in and that has positive effects to you mental health, well being and gives you clarity you cannot find when you are surrounded by a mess.
Because it is too important, you will want to avoid making these totally common but unnecessary mistakes as I have highlighted above. This will allow you to do the job in the most efficient manner possible.
